The OK Choctaw Tribal Alliance,
Inc, a Section 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation, is located in Oklahoma City, OK. We were
founded by members of what is now the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, but we
welcome persons
of
all tribes and nationalities to our membership and to our
functions.
We meet monthly to socialize at a
pot luck dinner and to afterwards conduct business. We usually
have a speaker or some form of entertainment at the meeting. You
do not have to be a member to attend the dinner and meeting, so
feel free to visit us. If you decide to join, the membership
dues are only $5.00 per year, which you can pay to our
Membership Chairman, Janet Theus, at the meeting. You must be a paid up
member by December 31st in order to vote or to run for office in
the next annual election.
You can now join the Alliance by
mail. If you click on this
Membership Form link you will find a form
that you can print out and submit by mail along with your dues.
Simply follow the instructions on the form.
Among our
major events are a bus trip to Tuskahoma for the
Choctaw Nation Veteran's Day ceremonies, our Christmas party, entering a
float in the Oklahoma City St. Patrick's Day Parade, entering a
float in the Edmond 4th of July parade, and the
upcoming bus trip to Tuskahoma for the annual Trail of Tears
Walk ceremonies.
We offer free Choctaw language
classes, which are described on our Language Classes page. We
also hold cultural classes such as our recent classes in
beadwork and the upcoming basket
weaving classes.
We conduct fund raising events
such as our
monthly Indian taco sales, an annual wild onion dinner,
breakfasts, arts and crafts sales, and garage sales . Our major fund raising event is taking the Indian
taco trailer to Tuskahoma to sell Indian tacos at the Choctaw Nation's
Annual Labor Day Festival. We also sponsor a bus trip to the
Labor Day Festival.
Some years ago the Alliance
adopted the following statement of its purposes:

heritage and the same for other American Indian people
in the Oklahoma City Area. We wish to create and enhance
awareness among the membership of the advantages and
importance of education, vocational training,
maintenance of family health, fiscal responsibility, and
other concerns associated with the quality of life for
Choctaws and others and to aid disadvantaged Choctaws
and others to the extent our resources will permit. |
